400 Day Help ---------------------------- 400 Day Parts
400 DAY REPAIR BASIC KIT $119 Includes everything on this page
CLOCK REPAIR EBOOK Written with a novice clock repair individual in mind, this information is the absolute best for a beginner clock repairman. To clean a 400 day clock, there is no need for ultrasonic solution, nor a ultrasonic cleaner, the best way is by hand. Taking the movement apart and cleaning it with the tools on this page makes it simple. You'll find yourself cleaning your neighbors clocks too, as it is in high demand to find people to work on these. The Ebook explains step by step the process of overhauling these movements. Included
SUSPENSION SPRINGS 12 of the most frequently used sizes. This is what got bent out of shape
when the clock was moved, they always do unless a person knows about them.
If you have a non-running 400 day clock, there is an 80% chance that this is
the problem. The other 20% would be a cleaning of the pivots. Pivots are the
skinny ends of the arbors that the gears are attached to. The pivots are
what insert into the clock plates. When the old oil dries up, it turns to goo and it must be cleaned off. Suspension springs are the long, flat wires
on the back of the clock, that let the balls rotate in the air. The balls
are hooked onto a bottom block and the bottom block is connected to this
type of spring. The springs are really just thin flat steel strips. What
matters the most is the thickness of this spring. The thickness is what
makes the balls rotate fast or slow. This package contains the most
frequently needed sizes and the length is long enough to cut down to any
size needed. Included
MAINSPRING LET DOWN TOOL This tool is needed to clean a 400 day clock. To clean a 400 day clock, it must be disassembled to access the pivots and pivot holes (Pivots were described above). Before taking this clock apart, a person MUST let down the power of the mainspring. The mainspring is the big flat steel ribbon that is wound with the key. You cannot see the mainspring because it is inside of a container called a barrel. This mainspring packs a punch, it wants to unwind fast. This spring is very long in a 400 day clock, and that is why the clock runs for so long with only one wind. Therefore it can destroy the rest of the clock and possibly harm the repairer unless this tool is used. This tool is used to let the mainspring unwind in a slow and controlled manner. Included PITH WOOD This is special wood used in clock and watch repair. After letting the
power out of the mainspring and disassembling the clock movement, the pivots
are cleaned with this wood. Just insert the pivot into the end of the
pithwood and turn it a bit to clean. As explained earlier, the pivots are
the skinny end of the arbor. These pivots must be clean of old oil that has
turned into goo over the years. The holes that they ride in are called pivot
holes and are cleaned by the next item... Included ORANGE WOOD This is used to clean pivot holes. Pivots and pivot holes were described earlier. The old oil that has turned to goo over the years must be cleaned from the clock. This old oil does the direct opposite of what new oil is supposed to do. Just a Small amount of dried up oil can stop the clock. This orange wood is used by sharpening the point like a pencil and rotating the wood in the pivot hole to clean it out. Included
This is used to pull gears or hands off clocks in a straight and safe fashion. With 400 day clocks in particular, the hour hand sometimes is difficult to get off. Doing it by hand could increase the hour hand holes diameter and the hand will not fit back on correctly because it would be touching the dial. Using this simple tool prevents this from happening. Included
Ten clock key sizes all in these two five prong keys. They will fit most
clocks encountered except for Large grandfather clocks. What a handy item
for the clock nut, to have only one set of clock keys for the whole house. Included
This is used to measure the thickness of suspension springs to determine the correct replacement to use. Included
TAPER PIN ASSORTMENT Taper pins have many uses in clock repair. This is an assortment of brass
and steel pins with various diameters. With 400 day clocks, they are often
used on the pillars of the clock to hold the plates together. If you loose
one, here you have an assortment of them even though these are hard to find. Included
