Help finding a replacement Kieninger clock movement:

First thing to do is to get all the information off of the back plate of the Kieninger clock movement itself and write it down. Be sure to remove the weights and pendulum if the case is to be moved to see the back plate of the movement. Do not make the mistake of looking for the model number of the clock, this number is on the paperwork that comes with the clock and is not what is needed to replace the Kieninger movement. As stated above, the information needed is located on the back plate of the movement itself.

The numbers off of the Kieninger clock movement is not all you need in determining what the movement is. You may have a number such as this: 84 R 80CM.

In this case 84 is the year, R is the beginning of the series number that you must finish figuring out what it is, CM is the pendulum length in centimeters from the suspension post all the way down to the bottom of the pendulum. You must still figure out the Kieninger series number, or at least the rest of it. You do this by looking at the below charts. The first two numbers on the plate are the year of production, until 1985 they did ist in this way. Starting 1986, they began with "01" for 1986, "02" for 1987 etc.

So to find out what Series Kieninger clock movement you have, the first thing you do is determine if your clock is run by weights or springs, and if weights then how many. This will tell you what chart to use. Then determine the chime, if its Westminster, triple chime, Bim Bam or gong. You can tell if the clock is a Westminster will have 8 hammers, Triple chime will have 12 hammers,. Bim Bam will have only 2 or three hammers and gong will only have one. Next is the hand shaft length. This is measured from the front plate of the movement all they way out to the end of the minute hand threads. About Kieninger

Kieninger is the oldest existing manufacturer of mechanical movements for floor, wall and mantel clocks in the world. The Kieninger movement excel with a high level of design and manufacturing quality. Numerous innovations and patents (16-rod chimes; second indication for pendulum lengths under 116 cm; automatic beat adjustment, nighttime shut-off systems for 1/2-hour and 1/4-hour movements; automatic chime sequencing; various manufacturing processes and components) are the measure for design quality.

Manufacturing quality shows in every Kieninger Clock Movement: All Kieninger Clock Movement plates are made of a special brass alloy which is hard and has a tensile strength of 53 kp/mm2. The holes for the journals are reamed and smoothened after lacquering and then receive an oil sink.

Each Kieninger Clock Movement has Pinions are made of high-quality steel or stainless steel. Fast turning pinions are hardened. All journals are roller burnished in a special process. Some movements feature bronze-bushings and/or jewels in critical positions. The gears in the Kieninger Clock Movement are made of a very tough and hard brass alloy with a tensile strength of 62 kp/mm2.

A high level of corrosion protection for all components is assured. Brass components are pickled and receive a coat of clear lacquer. Steel components are made from stainless steel or receive a galvanic nickel coating. Each Kieninger Clock Movement has a laser engraved serial number.
