Anniversary Clock Suspension Springs are the most frequent thing that breaks. It is always a good idea to have extra springs on hand because they bend, crimp or twist easily. Once this occurs, the spring is no good.

Hermle (West Germany) anniversary clock (4 crystal balls spin on pendulum, crystal dome and saucer; small – about 7″ high overall) – when I changed battery, the suspension spring assembly (what i would describe as a flap narrow strip with a perpendicular rod in center and 2 metal squares/blocks at each end of strip; all very miniature) slipped apart. Opening the clock back, I see how the strip hung and rotated the crystal balls. I don’t have a micrometer to measure. The very flat strip is no wider than about 1 mm; with 1 square/block still attached, the strip measures about 64 mm length; perpendicular stem is about 8 mm total length, attached. The slender strip was not broken off.

What is the length of a suspension spring on a Haller 400 Day Anniversary clock? I know the thickness is .0030.

My wife recently brought out an anniversary clock (Kundo) for me to fix. After doing some research I unlocked the pendulum and rotated the orbs 3 turns and the clock begin to work. It stopped after 15 min. I redid the process over several days and now it is running for about 30-35 min a session. Not sure what the issue is and was wondering if you can give me some insight. I do own a grandfather clock with Urgos movement that I have brought back to life several years ago and is still working to date. Any advice, wisdom, observations are greatly appreciated.

Update. Clock is now running for 10 hours and appears to be fairly accurate. Over the next week, I will keep track of time and make any necessary adjustments. No new parts required as this point. Thanks James for the link, it was very helpful in understanding the clock’s workings.

So what are the consequences of using a spring of the wrong size? eg, a .0023 instea of a .0020 or vice versa? I assume beat rate but not sure how much it would be affected. How close do I have to be in order for my clock to function correctly?
It all has to do with timing. If the spring is too thick, the clock will run too fast in time. It really has to be the correct thickness and best to match what was there originally. These clocks are so touchy, it takes some patience.

I have inherited an Elgin Quartz Anniversary glass domed clock from my parents. It says “Made in Japan” at the bottom of the clock face. The clock seems to work properly and maintain correct time but over the years the gold plating on the 3 spinning globes has disappeared. Is there a way to restore this plating? Thank you.

Hello, I just received my new suspension springs which I ordered .003. I noticed my old springs measure .003 x .025. The new springs are .003 x .017. Will the difference in the width affect the timing or did I order the wrong size. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks , Kanah

No, there is not anything at all. After unpacking the clock I found It with no parts. Installed a battery, set the time and is working quite well. I would just like to have the waits spinning.

I have a Kundo 400 day clock. There is no model # or other identifying marks. The spring is intact, but there is an obvious spiral to it as it sits. Is this spiral normal? Or does that fall under ‘bent’. If I rotate the balls 3/4 turn and let go, they will continue to rotate for 10 minutes, slowly losing distance. Does an instruction page exist identifying how to disconnect the spring?
Spiral is not good in the spring, should be flat with absolutely no kinks or it will never run past 10min. Need to replace the suspension spring on that one

Our Anniversary clock does not have a torsion pendulum rod spring. It had a tiny spring that was connected to the plastic arm moved by the mechanics of the clock. We need to replace that tiny delicate coil spring.
We only have parts for 400 day mechanical anniversary clocks, nothing for the battery units

My spring appears to be .0305 Wide and .002 Thick. Never seen one this small. It is for a Kieninger and Obergfell square base clock. Do you have anything like this?

i have a Howard miller anniversary clock the movement is powered by a C battery from the base. The clock keeps time just fine. The rotating balls seemed to have been suspended from the top . .It was given to me there no spring or blocks in this clock . What do I need to fix this thing?

Are there parts available for the Kieninger & Obergfell Kundo Electronic clocks from Germany? .
The pivot piece for the pendulum is broken. It is two pieces of brass connected by what looks like two very thin pieces of spring steel. The upper piece of brass is screwed to the clock frame while the lower piece has a small rod running through it where the pendulum sits. The pendulum has a double hook at the top that sits on the small rod thus allowing the pendulum to swing. This is one of those early electric clocks with the circular magnet at the bottom of the movement.

Hello, I have a Welby Kieninger & Obergfell Anniversary Clock marked Made in Germany then a few marks and 0)jewels unadjusted. The numbering is white on blue and I can find no other marks. From reading through your site I have identified that part of the reason it isn’t running is the suspension spring (what is currently attached isn’t much thicker than Christmas tinsel) has a kink in it at the top and I don’t see anything that would attached the balled pendulum to the suspension spring so I think the bottom block may be missing as well.
With that, I have no idea how to figure out what size suspension spring I should order! Can you help????

How to disassemble a pendulum on 400 dayclock
you are better off not removing any of the rivets that hold everything together, but the slotted piece that attaches to the spring at the top of the pendulum comes off by unscrewing it, find a thick screwdriver that fits into the slot and turn the pendulum counter clock wise, don.t force it if its too tight and don’t use pliers on it. the threaded piece and the dial you turn with your fingers are one piece, that turns on a steel shaft pressed into a brass casting, that bottom twisted piece. mine got dropped and i discovered it may look like the legs are bent but it was the steel shaft that deeded straightening. and some legs needed the same. the thing needs to be balanced some what so its best to net take that apart. even if the pendulum becomes bent or lopsided it will still work. use a small crescent wrench as a vise to hold the brass, its easy to bend so don’t go too far the other way. and don’t use any type of polishing compounds or abrasives on your brass or you will remove the clear coat that keep the clock from turning green. good luck

Why disassemble the pendulum balls, there is never a reason to do this
Straightening the pendulum parts can be much easier if you disassemble them first, looks like those pins are rivets mushroomed over on both sides of each pin, in this case you will need to make replacement rivets. use the tip of a center drill the same size of the head of the rivet. center punch the very center of each rivet first. drill the small end of the rivet go in till the head pops off and starts spinning, the rivet should now fall out the opposite side you drilled perhaps they sell a replacement? too little time to get the hands to tell the time we spend fixing grandma Rose’s old clock. two jewels and plastic levelers that fall apart.
they made the face to have twelve numbers because for the other twelve numbers you are supposed to be sleeping and wont see them anyways.
I cant find the exact rivets and tools to recreate that environment the factory has that they used from the start. I have been on the search. As for us, we just solder it or make a rivet out of brass round stock and by means of the mushroom method.
