Chain Driven Movements
A chain-driven clock movement is a type of mechanical clock mechanism. It utilize chains to transfer energy from hanging weights to the clock’s gears. These movements run by hanging weights, made of heavy metal. These weights hang on the movement and provide the energy that it needs to drive the movement.
Chains connect the weights to the movement’s gears. The chains wrap around pulleys within the clock case. Thus guiding their movement as the weights descend. This transfers the stored energy into the smooth motion of the clock’s hands.
Chain-driven clock movements are commonly found in traditional clocks such as grandfather clocks and antique timepieces.
