How to make the clock chime when its supposed to.

First we need to know, the clock chime is correct no matter what it says the chime is, it's right. We only need to have the hands point to where the clock thinks it is, or where its chiming in other words. And then set the clock to time.

So to point the hands to where the clock chimed we need to remove the hands, and put them back on the clock where the clock chimed. In other words if it chimes that it's 3 o'clock, put the hour hand to the three and the minute hand to the 12.

If the clock minute does not point exactly to the 12, do this: Find the circle spinning setting knob on the back of the movement. Hold this still with your fingers so it will not move. At the same time you stop this from moving, point the minute hand to the 12. Let go of both.

Not sure from here.

I know there is no quartz units with ships strike made in todays world

All I can say is if it fits, and new hands are with it, it should be fine to use

Can I use the Non-Pendulum Chiming-Seiko Quartz Movement to convert a Seth Thomas vintage electric mantel clock to a battery operated movement?

Hi,

Yes providing it fits dimensionally and the hand shaft hole is 3/8 wide for the threaded post of the new unit to go through

I have a Seth Thomas Framingham mantel clock model # 9563-001 that uses an A401-003 (now 340-020) mechanical movement. The movement needs to be replaced and I am considering a battery-operated one. Which battery-operated one do you suggest if a replacement is possible? Thank you.

Hi,
We do offer the mechanical clock movement as well

Please order the 340-020 from this link
https://www.clockworks.com/product/new-340-020-clock-movement

If insisting on the quartz unit, any would work really, the best sound being the QU40 on the chime link below

For Time Only movements (No chime, No pendulum) See this link

For High Torque movements that are time only (No chime, No pendulum) See this link

Hi,

Many people request a quartz movement that they want to replace and give the numbers off of the movement wanting to match it up with the exact same unit. This unfortunately is not how replacing a quartz movement goes, unless you are replacing a Hermle chiming movement. You can tell if your clock is a Hermle chiming movement because it will take two C cell batteries and it will have the numbers similar to 2215 or 2114. So if the clock is not made by Hermle and you still want to replace it then you would need to match the movement up by what functions the clock has instead of going by the numbers. There are so many different manufacturers of quartz movements and there are so many made, it is impossible for us to have a reference of them all.

Re: Seiko QU30NP
Does it have a silent mode for all hours?
How does the automatic night-time silent operation work? Can the night hours be selected, or is it a daylight sensor with an on/off switch?

James Stoudenmire

No sensor, just times too not play music from around 10pm to like 6am or so

Thanks James, no sensor and fixed night period is OK. I just received two units I ordered, and they sound great and work well, however, an instruction sheet would be helpful. The switch which selects the chime node, West or Whitt was easy to recognize, but the 3-position switch next to it is a total mystery, and not so easy to discover the 3 functions. Any information you can provide woul be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Frank
